Oscar Award Winners and Also-Rans
Teddy did not have the same problem but I had difficulty sleeping in this Oscar Sunday due to all the excitement from the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood within a matter of hours.
The Academy of Motion Pictures has made the choice of “Best Picture” more difficult giving authorized voters as many as ten nominations. When did a cartoon last win the top Oscar? When did a woman-directed movie win? Do you remember the last time Meryl Streep won a Best Actress Oscar? What do you think Penelope Cruz will wear around her neck tonight?
These and many other questions will be answered in about twelve hours from now. Teddy & I saw “Julie & Julia” and fell asleep in the back row at the Raven in Healdsburg. Yet, I hope Meryl Streep acceptance address is as beautiful as her gown.
Jeff Bridges, Steve Martin, and Alec Baldwin may also have some memorable things to say. I just hope the orchestra doesn’t have to drown them out and drive them off the stage before a commercial break.
