Lunch Out Mid-Week in San Carlos at the 888 Ristorante Italiano
Almost by accident, we were in front of this inviting, fine restaurant along Laurel Avenue, just a couple doors south of Lu Lu’s post-grand opening. Fortunately, we were lured their by their attractive guest tables that have bright white table cloths, which the Cali-Mexican restaurant lacks, and a delightful aroma out to the sidewalk.
888 Ristorante Italiano offers a wide variety of great food and an extensive wine list. It rates our highest “5-Paw Rating.”
With a Zin, Pinot, and Syrah, we dined mid-day on a summer Wednesday on scrumptious appetizers (eg. Insalada Caprese and two special lunch entrees Melenzane alla Parmiggiana and Fettuccini con Polpette).
The homemade pasta was remarkable with a basil tomato sauce accented with a grand aroma of garlic. Meatballs were prepared full of flavor. Tiffany remarked that it tasted fresh and was healthy.
Eggplant was a delightful surprise, which unfortunately, I ate too fast but was able to really enjoy it. Teddy did not get a bite. Ruff!
Service was superb and the restaurant features a large bowl of water out front inviting dogs to pause and enjoy an excellent meal with their masters.
Next time we must try the homemade gnocchi with gorgonzola cheese, tomato basil, or pesto sauce, Vitello Quattro Staggioni, or the Pansotti alla Salvia with any one of 888 Ristorante Italiano’s eight green salads. The shellfish entrees look appealing, too.
