Thinking of Diversified Securities
Dateline: Wall Street
With the stock exchange closed until after Memorial Day, we can reflect on the past and future. On March 19, 2011, we announced our fourth diversified set “The Diversified Lucky Seven” of stocks. The group has done well.
Our first three “Diversified Dozen” set of stocks has done better than others since January 2, 2011. “Fund #3” leads by more than four grand, #2 has made more modest gains, and “Fund 1” at this point has gained only $386 in five months.
Do your homework, but you may wish to substitute HMY for ANV in your diversified seven or twelve. From the commodities list, Harmony Gold Mining, was up 5.8% last Friday; higher to $13.73. Likewise PEI, Pennsylvania Real Estate Trust, has performed impressive lately (up 3.9% in one day on 5-27 to $17.07). Given Imagery, GIVN, in the biotech sector jumped 7.3%, also last Friday, to $22.67.
Four new securities that we’ve been watching deserve more attention: LULU, GIVN, PEI, and HMY.
The energy and commodity stocks have taken some hits lately. After doing some homework, consider buying these:
- BTU – Peabody Energy @ $60
- CXO – Concho Resources @ $95
- JOYG – Joy Global @ $89
- TLM – Talisman Energy @ $ 20
- SLW – Silver Wheaton @ $ 36
- ARUN – Arun Networks @ $ 28
Now the DJIA stands at 12,441.58. In mid-March, the index average of 40 “blue-chip” stocks stood at 11,858.52. We were bullish back then. We remain selectively bullish.
Each of the three Diversified Dozen “funds” started with $15,000. #2’s cumulative gains are now at $2,629. The leader is #3 with a gross amount of $19,829.62; increasing almost a thousand dollars a month!
BBXT (finance sector), CBST (biotech), CPT (real estate investment trust), CVX (petrochemical), KFT (food services), LULU (sport and recreation), NEM (commodities), ORCL (software), SINA (Chinese), SYMC (high tech), and WAG (retail) make up “The #3 Diversified Dozen.”
Let’s not give up on the “Diversified Lucky Seven.”
Listed alphabetically are the stock prices now, back in March, and the high point and that date during the last two months.
