An Element of Surprise – “He, he, ha, ha!” “Happy, happy, joy, joy”
The Chinese Year of the Dragon begins on Monday. This may be a surprise to you.
Gracie Allen said that when her life began, “I was so surprised that I did not speak for a year and a half.”
Developing a greater sense of humor is one really good idea for a new year’s resolution. Laughing is a most healthy activity. Spreading the element of surprise in speech is a way to generate laughs.
The late great Steve Allen explained, “Some of the funniest jokes are those in which we expect to hear one thing but we hear another.” So goes the element of surprise. He, he, ha, ha!
I liken this to Christmas morning with the family. At the face of it, the day (a Jesus Christ anniversary celebrated by believers and non-Christians alike) is a glorious morning! Opening presents present many surprises leading to more joy, fun, and perhaps humor and countless funny moments, too.
Ah, imagine “Christmas cheer” happening everyday! It is up to you and I to decide whether to take some responsibility for our own and others’ happiness. Times are tough for billions of humans, so there is a big need to laugh daily. Spread the kind of spirit that harmless, funny, tears of joy producing, and gut-busting laughter jokes lead to.
Whatever cultural calendar you follow and means the most to you, enjoy everyday of the year.
